Ukigumo Japanese Maple Tree

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location that receives partial shade to ensure the vibrant colors of the foliage are preserved. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and as deep as the root ball, amending the soil with organic matter for better drainage. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and spread a 3” layer of mulch three feet around the tree. Water thoroughly.

2. Watering: Regular watering is essential during the first growing season to establish strong roots. Aim for consistent moisture but avoid waterlogging, as this tree prefers well-drained soil. Once established, you can reduce watering frequency while ensuring it receives enough hydration during dry spells.

3. Pruning: Minimal pruning is required, making it low maintenance. Focus on removing any dead or crossing branches to maintain its attractive shape. This is best done in late winter or early spring before the new growth begins.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilizing should be done in early spring before new growth starts. Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to promote healthy foliage without over-fertilizing, which can harm delicate roots.
