Easy-Growing, Bright-Blooming Perennial

Looking for an eye-catching, plant-anywhere perennial? The May Night Salvia is the perfect choice.

With tall, spiky indigo-blue flowers and mounds of soft, green foliage, the May Night Salvia (also known as May Night Sage or Meadow Sage) adds bright color to mixed borders, flower beds, patio containers and more. It's well-suited to cottage landscapes, rock gardens or cut flower beds.

It's one of the easiest perennials to grow and maintain. Whether you're an expert gardener or a first-time grower, you'll get months of vibrant, re-blooming flowers. This low-maintenance show-stopper is also drought tolerant once established, and resistant to deer and rabbits.

A sweet fragrance means it attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds - and it makes for lush bouquets of cut flowers in your home, or to give to friends.

Looking Good

This batch is more viable. I have potted them and placed them in partial shade while they grow more hearty before planting them in my front yard.

Trees.com Plant ExpertWe’re happy this round of May Night Salvia is showing more promise, Cordell. Taking a little extra time to let them strengthen first sounds like a good approach, and our team is always here to help if any questions come up.

Not sure if I will risk planting this, they look diseased

Not quite as pictured. Well, the plants arrived later than expected and unfortunately, they were in pretty bad shape as was the box. I did not really expect any purple blooms and I have purchased other plants, some shipment damage is to be expected. However, the color of the leaves were yellow, black and some mildewy. It looks like they were very severely damaged and diseased.

Trees.com Plant ExpertWe are so sorry your plants arrived in such poor condition; this is far from the experience we want you to have. Transit shock from summer heat is always disappointing, and we agree this was not acceptable. Our team has been in touch directly and we are glad we could get this resolved for you.

My May night salvia

It hasn’t bloomed

Trees.com Plant ExpertWe appreciate the update, Bonnie! It is very common for new May Night Salvias to take a break from blooming right after transplanting while they adjust to the local soil and summer heat. To ensure we provide the best care for your plants, just keep up with regular watering, and the new flower spikes will follow once the roots finish establishing. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need any help!
