Fry Bronze Muscadine Vine

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with full sun, good air circulation, and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Provide a strong trellis, arbor, or wire support, allowing approximately 15–20 feet of space for the vine to spread. Plant near a self-fertile muscadine such as Noble to ensure pollination.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and keep the soil evenly moist during the first growing season. Once established, muscadines tolerate short dry periods, but regular watering during flowering and fruit development supports larger, higher-quality grapes. Avoid consistently soggy soil.

3. Pruning: Prune annually in late winter while the vine is dormant. Remove excess growth and shorten the previous season’s shoots to fruiting spurs with two to four buds. Keep the main trunk and permanent arms well defined, and remove shoots that emerge from the base.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer after new growth begins in spring, following label rates for the vine’s age and size. Spread it evenly over the root zone rather than against the trunk. A soil test can help identify nutrient needs and prevent overfertilizing, which may encourage leaves at the expense of fruit.
