Evergreen Huckleberry Shrub

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a site with partial shade to full sun and moist, acidic, well-draining soil. Provide afternoon shade in hot climates. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, then plant at the same depth it was growing in its container.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Once established, keep the soil moderately moist, especially during hot weather and while berries are developing. Mulch with pine bark or leaf compost to conserve moisture and support acidic soil conditions.

3. Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or after fruiting to remove damaged, crossing, or crowded branches. Older shrubs can be selectively thinned to encourage fresh growth. Avoid heavy shearing if you want a natural form and a good berry crop.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a light dose of fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants in early spring. Avoid overfertilizing, which can promote excessive leafy growth at the expense of flowers and berries.
