Fragrant blooms bring delicious berries

The DownHome Harvest® Hello Darlin® Blueberry Shrub is an excellent choice for warm-climate growers, especially in the Southeast. Its fragrant white blooms appear early in spring, followed by an abundant harvest of large, flavorful blueberries. With a low chill hour requirement, this variety is well suited for Northern Florida and much of the Gulf Coast, where traditional blueberries may struggle.

Hello Darlin® is an early-ripening variety, allowing you to enjoy fresh blueberries sooner in the season. Its combination of ornamental spring flowers and dependable fruit production makes it a standout in edible landscapes, mixed borders, or home gardens. With proper care, this blueberry shrub delivers both beauty and harvest reliability year after year.

About Southern Living®: The Southern Living® Plant Collection was created to bring gardeners plants that truly thrive in real-world landscapes. Each variety is carefully selected and rigorously tested to ensure it performs beautifully—especially in challenging Southern conditions like heat and humidity. Since its introduction in 2008, the collection has focused on offering reliable, solution-driven plants with outstanding color, form, and durability, so you can garden with confidence and enjoy lasting results.

Just arrived today. Extremely well packed.

I’ll acclimate these new blueberries by letting them wake up gradually from being packaged. First, I’ll open them in a shady area and allow them a few days to acclimate towards increasing sunlight. The weather has been extremely hot and humid here in Northwest Tennessee however, next week will be cooler. I’ll transplant these into larger pots over the next week where they’ll remain until spring. I bought several 4 foot diameter raised beds where I plan to permanently established them. I’ll set up the raised beds properly using compost, peat moss and mini pine bark nuggets. To the mixture I’ll add about 1/4 cup of cottonseed meal. Further, I’ve invested into a very good pH meter.

Trees.com Plant ExpertHi there! Thank you so much for the thoughtful review—those Blueberries sound like they’re in great hands. We love that you’ll acclimate them gradually, transplant into larger pots, and then establish them in your raised beds with the right soil amendments and careful pH monitoring. Wishing you a smooth transition and a fantastic growing season ahead!

    Hellooooo, Darlin!

Because I’m clearly out of my mind, I bought two of these in a very large order. They arrived happy, healthy and with a few berries on them. They’re now all settled in amongst my onions, cabbage, strawberries and Brussels sprouts. I’m looking forward to many pies, jars of jam, muffins and smoothies. 😎

Trees.com Plant ExpertHi Jennifer! We are so delighted to hear that your plants arrived in great condition and are settling in nicely among your other produce. We can't wait to see all the delicious creations you'll make with them!
