Effortless Cooking and Fragrance

Why Bay Laurels?

An outstanding, fragrant tree that wows - the Bay Laurel is second to none. Use the Sweet Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis) Tree as an ornamental, or as a part of your cooking spice collection. This versatile, amazing little variety has an array of uses and can even be trained as a topiary.

Even better? The Bay Laurel thrives in a container, too. Basically, this hardy evergreen shrub has the strength to match its good looks. Plus, it's known for its unique, refreshing fragrance and glossy, dark-green leaves that will add interest to your porch, patio, balcony or landscape. During the summer months, it produces small black fruit that attracts birds for a show of graceful wildlife.

It's probably best known, however, as a favorite spice. Chances are that you have a spaghetti recipe that includes bay leaves. Fresh or dried Bay Laurel leaves can be used as a cooking spice and are often added to traditional Mediterranean dishes such as soups, stews and fish dishes. Their mild flavor enhances the taste of vegetables, meat, and poultry, with dried leaves retaining their flavor for several months.

My tree arrived in a

My tree arrived in a strong, healthy condition, however, I must confess that I was anticipating a plant that was more shrub like as shown in the picture. That said, I was extremely pleased with the plant’s quality. I do need to bring it inside during the winter months but I’m looking forward to a good pruning before moving it outside this spring.

Trees.com Plant ExpertHi Carlene, thank you for your wonderful review! We are so glad your Bay Laurel arrived safe and healthy. It makes total sense that you were expecting a more compact shrub shape, but the fantastic thing about Sweet Bay is how enthusiastically it branches out after a trim. Your plan to prune it in the spring before placing it outdoors is spot on! Trimming back the central growth will cause the plant to fill out horizontally with dense, aromatic leaves. As you care for it inside over the winter, place it in a bright room with ample natural light and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. We back our plants with our customer guarantee, and we are always here to make sure your bay tree flourishes.
