April Tryst Camellia Shrub

The April Tryst Camellia brings gorgeous color to your garden in early to mid-spring! This stunning evergreen shrub produces vibrant, deep red, semi-double flowers with bright yellow centers that create a beautiful contrast against its glossy, dark green foliage. As part of the April Series of camellias, it's known for its exceptional cold hardiness and reliable spring blooms, making it a fantastic choice for adding early-season color to your landscape.

The April Tryst Camellia typically grows 5 to 8 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide at maturity, developing an attractive, upright, bushy shape. It thrives in partial shade, especially in locations with morning sunlight and protection from harsh afternoon sun. Plant it in well-drained, acidic soil enriched with organic matter for the best results. Its compact growth habit and year-round evergreen foliage make it an excellent choice for foundation plantings, woodland gardens, privacy borders, or as a beautiful standalone accent shrub.

Absolutely! The April Tryst Camellia was specifically bred for improved cold tolerance and is generally hardy in USDA Zones 6 through 9. Unlike many traditional Japanese camellias, this variety can handle colder winters while still delivering spectacular spring flowers. It's also relatively low-maintenance once established! Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged, apply mulch to protect its shallow roots, and fertilize with an acid-loving plant fertilizer in spring. Light pruning after flowering can help maintain its shape, but this naturally attractive shrub rarely needs extensive trimming.
