Picking Evergreen Trees for the Job You Need Done
Evergreen trees aren't one kind of plant. Spruce, pine, arborvitae, cypress, juniper, and holly all keep their foliage through winter, but they differ widely in size and how fast they grow. This collection of evergreen trees for sale covers all of them, which makes it most useful once you know the job the tree has to do.
Evergreen Trees for Privacy Screens and Windbreaks
For a screen, work out how tall and how wide it needs to be before looking at varieties. Narrow, upright varieties of arborvitae trees fit a tight side yard, while broader spruces and pines take more room and are common windbreak choices along an open property line. The privacy trees collection narrows the list to types suited to screening. Dwarf types stay much smaller and suit borders instead.
Fast Growing Evergreen Trees: What Counts as Fast
Most evergreens here grow at a moderate pace, and a smaller group counts as fast growing, generally meaning two feet or more of new growth a year. Speed has a cost in space: a quick grower reaches its mature width sooner, so check that width before planting a row. A larger starting size shortens the wait too, and sizes here run from small starter plants to trees around 6-7 feet tall. To compare speed across every tree type, see the fast growing trees collection.
Spruce, Pine, and Arborvitae Compared
Spruce trees lean toward cold climates, with many listed down to zone 2. Pine trees vary more, from compact types listed to zone 2 to others listed only for zones 6 to 9, so check each listing.
Whichever family you choose, the zone range on the listing is the number to trust. Trees.com's Alive & Thrive Guarantee™ replaces eligible plants once within a year of delivery, but it does not cover trees planted outside their recommended zones or damaged by extreme weather or animals.
