Arborvitae Trees

Arborvitae are fast-growing, easy-to-care-for evergreen trees. They make visually interesting hedges and screens, thanks to their year-round color, lush foliage, and clusters of rosebud-shaped cones. There are five species of arborvitae, but the most common are American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) and Giant arborvitae (Thuja plicata). The other species are Chamaecyparis, Thujopsis, and Platycladus.

While we carry several varieties of arborvitae tree, there are a few standout trees that our customers love. Below are the top-ranked arborvitae in our collection, including real reviews from customers:

Emerald Green Arborvitae (4.9 out of 5 stars)

“Normally, I don’t write reviews, but I feel like these trees deserve a rating. A few years ago, we purchased 24 arborvitaes to block out our neighbor's picket fence. All the trees have grown as promised and look beautiful.”

Baby Giant Arborvitae (4.8 out of 5 stars)

“Don’t be put off by their small size. This is truly a hardy, fast-growing, low- to no-maintenance tree. Love them!”

Full Speed A Hedge American Pillar Arborvitae (4.8 out of 5 stars)

“I am in love with this tree and now own 25 and counting. They make a great tree line that doesn't consume significant width spacing.”

Junior Giant Thuja Tree (4.8 out of 5 stars)

“After much debate, my husband and I chose Junior Giant Thuja trees for a screen between us and our backyard neighbor. They’re beautiful little trees!”

Thuja Green Giant (4.7 out of 5 stars)

“A few years ago, I purchased Thuja Greens to form the northern and western borders of my property to block out neighbors whose sense of landscaping was less than desirable. Those trees are now majestic giants and over 40 feet of lush green beauty.”

The Green Giant Arborvitae and its cultivars are considered to be the fastest-growing arborvitae trees, growing 3 to 5 feet a year until they reach maturity at around 30-50 feet tall.

Absolutely! Arborvitaes do best with 6 or more hours of sunlight daily. They can be grown in partial shade (4 to 6 hours of sunlight daily), but they won’t be as lush and will take longer to reach their full height.

Arborvitae can range from heights of 10 feet for dwarf-sized trees to 50 feet for full-sized trees. The exact size and growth rate will depend on your specific variety, as well as location, care, and growing conditions.

Arborvitae trees are definitely among the most popular evergreen trees—in fact, the Thuja Green Giant arborvitae is our #1 most popular tree! Some additional popular evergreens are juniper trees, holly trees, cypress trees, and spruce trees.
